  • Before a person takes any office in the city government, he shall take the following oath or affirmation before an officer of the state authorized to administer oaths:

"I swear that I will faithfully and impartially uphold the Constitution of this State and of the United States, and will demean myself as Mayor (or Councilman, as the case may be) during my continuance in office. I have not, in order to influence my election to this office, directly or indirectly promised my vote or support to any person or officer in the said government of the City of Thomson, nor for any other office.
